I was just thinking and I had a question. What does Gentle think about his similarity with people? After all, throughout his entire life, in the cage and moments of observing people after the events of the film, he should have noticed that sometimes his gestures and especially his smile are very similar to them, the Humans. What thoughts might he have on this matter? I once read "Courageous and Gentle" and I remember that at the end of the story Gentle was thinking something about his similarity with them and that "He doesn't want to think about it."

Thank you for asking! I'm glad you find my take on the characters interesting.

I think it's both fascinating and scary to Indo that humans are a little like him, particularly in ways that he's different from the other raptors. He doesn't like humans much and mostly sees them as prey now, in addition to remembering them hurting him when he was unable to defend himself, but some part of him recognizes them as conspecifics, because, in small part, they are. He looks at them and wonders why he feels like he should be one of them, interacting with them the way they interact with each other, and unfortunately he's intelligent enough to have a bit of an existential crisis about it, so he'd rather not dwell on it. The raptors welcome him as their own, after all, so he shouldn't need humans now.

I like Blue and Indo as opportunities to explore identity confusion with their respective relationships to humans. Blue is a dual imprint (wild animal hand-raised by humans with siblings of the animal's species), who understands she's a raptor, yes, but feels like at least her humans are her family, too, and can unknowingly expect humans she doesn't know to treat her as a peer like her humans would, and expect her own humans to also understand her better than they actually can. Indo wasn't given an opportunity to bond with the humans who raised him, but as a social creature he needed something to consider his kind, and humans were all he had. He unknowingly even shares blood with them, but they didn't acknowledge him as one of them, so what is he supposed to think he is? Meeting Blue was very much an "ugly duckling sees swans for the first time" revelation for him... but he is a "duck", too, so that's not the end of it.

What do their children think about this? Starlight, dawn, dusk, sunny? I'm particularly interested in the cutie named Dawn in terms of interacting with the human/humans due to his personality.

The Indoraptorlets don't really think about humans much. They've had a happy childhood where they've never been made to feel weird and unwelcome, so they don't need to worry as much about what they are. They're raptors, and they've grown up knowing that the way they are is one valid way for a raptor to be.

The only interaction they've had with humans so far is in the comic Collision, and it was pretty exclusively a scary experience. If they did end up interacting with humans more, in a less scary situation, maybe they would pay attention to the similarities between them, though.

I think Dawn could be willing to be befriended by a human, but the human would have to do a lot of the work to get across that they want to be friends and why it would be beneficial for Dawn. Even among the friends he already has and whom he can effortlessly communicate with, he's quite content to spend most of his time by himself. I think out of the four of them, Starlight would be the most likely to approach a human of her own initiative for reasons other than predation. She's very curious and pretty socially forward, so if a human is not a threat or a prey, she would be interested in figuring out what to treat them as instead. Of course, Starlight is also the biggest and arguably scariest-looking one of them, so her curiosity would probably not be something a human wants to stick around for. Probably for the best.

Happy New Year! Don't normally draw very often, but I drew a tribute to the webcomics I read over 2023. Thanks again for the inspiration, love your stuff and hope you have a great 2024.
